NYC Slavery and Underground Railroad - Walking Tour
Guests will travel back in time to New York City during the 17th century when it was a Dutch colony named New Amsterdam. They’ll learn about the Dutch West India Company and the role slavery played in New York City’s early history and economy, how the institution of slavery led to rebellions, riots, and acts of great heroism, and understand what the day to day lives of slaves were like, including the difficult physical labor which included digging ditches, building roads and loading ships. Visitors will see former sites on the Underground Railroad, a series of safehouses and hiding places that provided refuge to people escaping slavery.
